According to a letter written in 1916 between two cousins inquiring about their ancestors, the writer wrote: :The Wynne family were originally English. Grandfather's grandfather, Thomas Wynne was a Captain in the English army and came to America and fought the Florida Indians, who had gone into Georgia, driving them back into Florida." The writer goes on to explain that Thomas did not receive a land grant from the King and returned to England where he moved his family to Ireland. Other of Thomas' siblings moved to Scotland and back to Wales where they retook their Welsh surname of Gwynne. I have been at a dead end for years trying to find a military record for this person. Any help greatly appreciated. The time frame would be anywhere from the time Oglethorpe left England and founded the Colony of Georgia up until the American Revolution. (1730's - 1776). His descendents were found c 1800 in Riverstown, County Sligo, Ireland and eventually left Ireland during the Famine period for America.
