Unknown Uniform

Hi Wendy,
Hugh's enlargement of the photo is excellent. I've looked at quite a few military websites, tunic and badges appear to be Canadian Army but the cap is different than any others I've seen in pictures from the WW1 time period. Still looking,

Cap badge of the 18th Battalion: maple leaf with 18 and Royal Crown. Most units had distinctive and individual cap badges, and many displayed the Canadian maple leaf

Closest I can get to the badge

The uniform still baffles me though.
