Try this combination. It ticks all the boxes and it would certainly account for the lack of results from any kind of Shepley-Timperley search combination. You'll find the entries on the LDS website

John Shepley, "England, Cheshire Bishop's Transcripts, 1598-1900"
    Name: John Shepley
    Event Type: Marriage
    Event Date: 01 Jun 1828
Event Place: Stockport St Mary, Cheshire, England

There's a Mottram-in-Longdendale burial record for Samuel Stansfield of Godley (now in Tameside but formerly a district of Hyde, Cheshire) on 18th September 1826

What do you think? I'm afraid there's no information on these records about parents, and the witnesses are probably each 'professional' in that one of them appears on several other entries on that page of the register. Both John and Ann (who makes her mark) say they are from neighbouring Hyde, Cheshire, i.e.next door to Dukinfield.

Something else for you to pursue, perhaps, if nothing else

Thanks for that reply Woody, would you believe I've been looking into exactly the same thing! It does sounds like it could be right doesn't it? Not really sure if there's any way to know for certain?
