    Default Familys with servants

Quick question I'm investigating one of the links in my family tree, I have found a John Mcdonald born abt 1815 in Ireland, he's living with his family and works as a foreman in a Mill in Salford Manchester. However they have a servant in a few of the census... how would they have afforded a servant?? Or was a foreman a good job in the 1800's??

    Thanks in advance.

just because it says that a servant is living with a family doesn't always mean that they were employed by that family. They could just be employed by the same person, or even be a family member. I have some-one living with my Great Grandma's sister and brother-in-law, it turned out to be her illegitimate son.
