I have found it spelled "linnen" at that period.

    Thanks for all your comments.
I have spent the last hour setting up a photobucket account and thanks to the instructions on this site by Sue Mackay this will hopefully work.

I know you will all shout at me that it clearly says `linnen` - but just compare the `l` of `linnen` with the `l` of `leave` on the line below, as I don`t think they are the same.
I am though going to accept linnen for now though (wouldn`t want to upset you all!!)

    Many Thanks

    Mitch

Linnen has a capital L, while leave has a lower case l. That's why they look different.

Now thats what I needed in the first place - a Super Moderator with a simple answer!!

Thank you so much. I never considered it being a capital letter, especially mid sentence!

    Many thanks

    Mitch

Capitalisation is often inconsistent in wills. In the extract you've posted, Day, Rest, Wearing, Linnen, Woollen, Executors are all capitalised. Possibly also Apparel, but you'd need to see more context to be sure.

    It's definitely a capital L.

I have a lovely little book called "A Secretary Hand ABC Book" by Alf Ison

It gives you Alphabet in different writing.
Samples of documents like wills etc.
