Hi

I am trying to find my relative James Henry Shore. On a number of the census he is shown as being born in Chunar India and on IGI I have found a James Henry Shore born 8 Oct 1857 in Chunar which ties in with the UK census records and his military records.

But I can't find him on FIBIS nor in the India Office files. How reliable would the IGI record be? The IGI record lists his parents which would obviously be useful if they are accurate.

Thanks for the advice. I have found a brother John Shore on IGI with similar details and his military records mention his next of kin is called John Shore. So am pretty sure now it is him.

I have now found what I think is the marriage of his parents in India on the India Office site so getting an idea of the family in India. They were in Bengal and I was wondering if you could suggest a good book to read as a starter on learning more about the history of the British in India around this time. It looks like his father was in the artillery as a private.
