Default Australia - UK 1887/8 - James Tuson

James Tuson was born in 1830 at Wootton, near Liverpool. He migrated to Australia in 1852 on the "Hiberian".
From information I received from 'Nannas' (thank you very much) to a posting on the Australia thread I discovered that he travelled with his wife Elizabeth and a daughterto the UK on holiday in 1887/8.
I have found them returning to Australia on the Lusitania in January 1888 (Public Record Office of Victoria - Unassisted Passenger Index)
Could someone have a look on the A******* inwards passenger list to see when they arrived in the UK and on which vessel? Thanks
    David

    Hi Nannas

I never thought of looking at that index (silly me!)
You've really aroused my curiosity with your posting. Bluff is at the bottom of the South Island. So maybe they did a bit of touring in New Zealand before embarking on the journey to England by way of the Pacific Ocean. I will search the passenger lists for arrivals in Bluff, and the Papers Past web site to see if they appear -- thanks for your help, really appreciated.

The NZSG has a CD "Victoria Outwards to New Zealand" - perhaps I should invest in it!!

    Hi

I've got all these in my tree EXCEPT for H Tuson 1886 - I found him on an inward passenger list to westland but haven't been able to link him yet to any particular line.
A B Tuson arrived in 1851, prior to that he tried Australia but was declared bankrupt in Maitland. Cornelius is one of his children. A B is also a member of the Tuson family who were prominent in Queensland in the 19th century

    kind regards
    David

    Hi Procat

I have found them leaving Lyttleton, NZ in April 1887 on board the ss Arawa of the Shaw Savill and Albion Line.

This was in a newspaper called "The Otago Witness" which I searched after Nannas had found them travelling from Victoria to Bluff

    Hi David,

Ancestry does not record any arrivals in 1887 for the Arawa. Those records must be missing.
