    Question Vicarage Records

    Hi All,

Just a short question, but is it possible to find Church Vicarage Records, accounts for household staff outside Census dates. In particular that of Llangadock, Carmarthenshire?

I think it highly unlikely, given that a Church of England or Wales minister lived in a vicarage or rectory as a private individual and was technically not employed, so did not have to account for the running of his household to anyone [apart from his wife, if any!]

You could also try the Church Commissioners, who act as the "employers" of the clergy in as much that they are responsible for paying the clergy's employment tax and insurance.

Although only formed in 1948 by joining together two bodies - Queen Anne's Bounty and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners - they do deal with historical enquiries.
