    Default Dumb Question

Been looking on the free bmd for Robert Bowey

I know he was born (baptized) Oct 16, 1820

Married Barbara Carr April 10th, 1842 @ Felton

    Remarried in 1879

My Question is how do know which one to choose??

Their are about a dozen or so Robert Bowey's after 1880 that have died.

How on earth does one go about figuring out the proper one??

Search the FreeCen page and can't locate him at all.

    Any suggestions??

    Wendy

At that date there should be an age on the free bmd records which might give you a clue - and possibly a location. When do you last have him on a census record?

    Hi Wendy
It's not dumb but a question of elimination.
Fenton - is that the one in Northumberland?
If so, disregard those out of the area (a starting point, although he might have moved)
    So, have many are left.
Search other sources, census records to see where he was living, start at 1851 and work forward, build up a picture.
Did he remarry? Have you proof that he is your man?
Can you find the death of Barabra?

Sorry this is all questions, do it is the picture of his life you are building.
Let us know what you find, then one of us might be able to help further.

Still alive in the 1891 by the looks of it, so later than that.

As for Robert's Birth I get this

ERROR: Year must be between 1837 and 1983

    AS he was born 1820

Tried the Free census and couldn't locate him at all

Located one in the 1861 census but not the correct Robert. Children's names are all wrong

Yes he remarried in 1879 to Ann Hogg

I believe this is the one I am looking for.

    Hi Wendy,
Is this your Robert on the 1861, losing a couple of years off his age.
    Ref. - - 9/3874, 51 , page 5 (in care of TNA, Crown Copyright)
Living at West Thirston, Bedlington, Morpeth
    Robert 39 Mason
    Barbara 38
    Mary 11
    Eleanor 9
    Barbara 6

If so, he's on all census from 1861 to 1891.This one has a second wife called Annie. If you can't find him, let us know and we can post refs.

Have you checked Freecen to find out if Morpeth has been transcribed yet?
I think Northumberland only has the 1861 census so far.
