With very brief queries from relatively new members it can sometimes be difficult to know the level at which to pitch a reply.

Some new to research (and sometimes new to the internet), need detailed explanation as to how to find an answer. Others who are more experienced can simply be told 'try this' and they'll know what is meant. So yes, replies do vary according to experience and knowing a date or period is often crucial to a reply.

We get to know each other and levels of experience through this community of 25,000 members.

    Crofter,
Another avenue that you could try (if you have not already done so) is to contact the Archivist at Dunrobin Castle in Scotland; they have a room dedicated to Family History relating to the family.
