The Ascania was apparently going between Southampton and Montreal in 1912

The Ascania was built in 1911 by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson in Newcastle, originally as the Gerona for the Thompson Line, but was taken over before completion by the Cunard Line as the Ascania. She was wrecked in 1918 off Cape Ray.

I have found a passenger list on Ancestry for a William C COOTE on board the Empress of Britain arr 25 Feb 1919, obviously a returning troop ship. The typing is not clear but he seems to be Private No. 144371 77th Btn CPC travelling home to a wife, but I can't make out the column on the far right.
