Occupations in Census Records

Can anyone help with two occupations I found recently?

In 1881, Mary Moore is described as Nurse (Sub Med). What on earth does that mean?

Also what was a Machine Moulder (Wood)? In 1881 Augustus Snewin is a Machine Moulder, but in 1891 he is a Timber Porter/Sawyer and his wife Alice is a Machine Moulder (Wood). I don't understand, does anyone out there?
