I'm looking for any information about a Victor Richard LEVAILLANT who emigrated from Britain to Canada and who lived in Saskatchewan.
I've looked him up on the outward (i.e. from Britain) records and Ancesspit (thanks, Vanessa) has a record in the Canadian Passenger Lists 1865-1935, arriving in St John, Brunswick. However all the rest of the information is hidden from me as I don't have a world-wide subscription.
If anyone has the necessary subscription, could they look him up and let me know when he sailed and arrived, please. He was born in Gravesend, Kent in 1887.
If Canadian records are more complete in any way than British records - Censuses available when he would be in Canada, for example - I would be very grateful for any extra information about him. I do know that he had a son called Richard Victor Levaillant in 1914.

Thank you
This has been a wonderful response to my enquiry, and I'm quite overwhelmed. You've all been very kind.
I wonder if I could push your kindness to asking if you could find the birth record of Richard Victor Levaillant born in Saskatchewan (Unity?) in 1914.
I've found records of two of Victor's brothers who fought in the First World War. Was there any sort of enlistment in Canada, or was it up to each man to make up his mind? I presume that Victor, as sole provider for his family, would have been exempt, anyway.

Hi pottoka,
Like some other provinces Saskatchewan birth registrations are available to anyone only for births 100 years ago or more. More recent records are subject to restrictions:
https://www.isc.ca/default.aspx?DN=20...10,1,Documents
Military service was voluntary for Canadians until the last few months of the war. Attestations can be searched here but I don’t see Victor:

Victor in hiding?
I think I must be doing something wrong here.
Victor put on the passenger list that he had emigrated to Canada in 1903, so he should be on the 1906 and 1911 Censuses. Even if he got his dates a bit mixed, which is possible seeing as there is no sailing for him, at least to Canada, around 1903, he had to have been there in 1908 because he married Nellie that year.
Is there any other way of looking for someone than by putting their name into the box? Levaillant brings up a big zero
