    Default Widow re-marrying c.1860

Would a widow, re-marrying c.1860 in England, be registered under her maiden or married name? Which name(s) should I use to search e.g. FreeBMD and the on-line I.G.I.

I would have thought married name - in the instance of a much married GGG Grandmother she was noted down as her married surname (for the previous husband...). However, if nothing comes up definately try both.

Her married name is nearly always the one to look for. The 2nd marriage certificate might have a "formerly ...." for her maiden name, else her father's name will reveal it. I can't think of one instance so far in my research that the maiden name is used after marriage.
