My gt gt grandfather John Newton was born in 1859 in Earlsheaton Dewsbury. He married Martha Clafton in 1881, they emigrated to Canada soon after but returned as Martha was homesick, they lived at Low Road Hanging Heaton and later at Commonside Hanging Heaton, where his smithy was . I have a photo of him shoeing a horse taken in the early 1900s.The sign on the door reads "John Newton Wheelwright and Smith Hanging Heaton". His anvil is still in the family as are his tools. I also have a picture of their property on Commonside as it was then, it is now unrecognisable. John died in 1936.
Does anyone know anything about the Newton family history?
