    Default Fricke - Middlesex

An ancestor of mine, Charles Edward FRICKE, was baptised on 30th May 1798 in St Marylebone, Middlesex.

His parents were Anthony and Mary. Despite search for thier marriage in the parish registers, and also in indexs such as Phillimores and Pallots I can find no trace of them.

Sadly neither got to the 1851 census which would have listed thier date of birth.

Fricke is not a very common name, so has anyone every come across is, or could you point me in the righ direction to find this marriage, and hopefully get the tree back a little further?

The name is often misspelt and I have see it as Frake and Freake also.

On the 1841 census there is a Mary Fricke (born 1771) living at Nutford Place, St Marylebone, Marylebone.

Other Frickes in the household are:

    Mary b 1806
    Fred b 1806
    Jas b 1811
    These 3 all born Middx.

there were a couple of FRICKER marriages at St Mary's, St Marylebone
Charles, son of Charles, to Marie Marthe POUPART, 27th Dec 1804
Francis to Jane RICHARDSON, 27 May 1792. Witnesses: Francis FRICKER & Hannah RICHARDSON.
Nothing yet for Anthony & Mary though

The baptism record is on the IGI but the batch is just 1791 - 1798 and yields nothing. Full searches on the IGI cannot find Antony Fricke.

I note you have searched the parish records so the parents most probably came from elsewhere. Clearly there was no clue in parish records.

    You doubtless have this

    Deaths Jun 1881
    Fricke Charles 84 Marylebone 1a 378

Just a thought - because Fricke is such a rare name below all deaths of Fricke's from FreeBMD. Might give a lead somewhere. I have left just the marylebone and St George's entries

You can do it for births and marriages equally-searching for clues

This fits with the other children batptised to Antony and Mary on the IGI.

James has the middle name Clarke - mother's maiden name? He dies in Devon 1846 - Newton Abbot district.

Is Mary still alive in 1851?

But where does Elizabeth come into the picture. The two Marys have Devon as their birthplace. On the 1841, the older Mary is not born in county.

Mary died in 1843 so she isn't on the 1851 census. I think it is likley Anthony and Mary were born and perhaps married outside the UK, judging from the 1841 census.

I believe Fricke may be a German name. On Charles marriage cert his occupation is listed as Gentn, which I assume stands for Gentleman.

Charles in the oldest child of the 4, and would have been born when Mary was 29. I wonder if there are other children not born in the UK?

    Hi

London marriages can be very tricky to find. I have the same scenario with George Coombs and Sarah. It is possible that Anthony Fricke married Mary outside London or at a London church that is not yet indexed.
