William Richard Manly Dawes
born 18 Aug 1831 Poplar, London
Married to Frances Lloyd
They came to Australia in 1852 but their UK life is shrouded
in mystery, passion and intrigue.
Seems that Frances was betrothed to William's older brother,
but she took the dowry and ran off with the younger brother.
How could she get away with that - isn't the dowry given AFTER marriage?
William was an educated man....and Frances was supposed to have been an heiress. (So why on earth did she take the dowry and run). Maybe she knew that if she stayed she would have been disowned? Especially for marrying the younger brother. Not done in those days.
So who were the parents?
Any other juicy details?
Was there a dowry or was it pure love?

John, you put things in a 'come on in manner'. I also could not find them definitely in Passenger lists. Did they marry in UK or Australia.?
Happy Families

So how much documentary evidence do you have?

Hummmmm.... Maybe "married" would have been better than married
But I am intrigued too.
As well as confused
Yes come on in - for clearly I know NOTHING
And it is lonely in this empty room and I will do you no harm
But there is no dowry in here to run off with
Just 'one searcher of the truth'

What was the name of the older brother?
The 1851 census has a Frances with a Thomas Dawes in Ealing. He was born 1827. Unfortunately, FreeBMD has their marriage in Kensington and Frances has Chambers as her surname.
As asked, what documentary evidence do you have so far?
