His age/occupation, name of father & father's occupation should appear on the marriage registration, making it easier to locate his birth registration.

Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Spouse's Surname: Armitage

Copies of certificates may be obtained from the General Register Office (click the link) for the cost of £7 if you have the references.
AdeleE has provided those for the marriage certificate and, with an age recorded on the certificate for William , it will certainly help to narrow down a year for his birth registration.
Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

To add to what Adele found for you (and the copy of the marriage certificate is always the best way to go), Ancestry have the actual parish register image of the marriage of William & Gladys:
31 October 1912 at St Peter Bethnal Green William Henry SHORNEY, 32, Bachelor, Engine Driver, 19 St Peter Street, father Henry Charles SHORNEY, Shipwright & Gladys Rose ARMITAGE, 29, Spinster, 19 St Peter Street, father Thomas Henry ARMITAGE (deceased), Ironmonger. Witnesses: Samuel Alfred ARMITAGE & Mary (May?) Jane SHORNEY.

1891 census of Bedminster, Somerset (RG12/1947, folio 148, page 11):
44 Essex Street
Henry SHORNEY Head M 48 Shipwright Bedminster Bristol
Sarah do Wife M 47 Taunton Somerset
Sarah do Daur S 26 Tailoress Bedminster Bristol
Mary Jane do Daur S 17 Boot Machinist do do
William do Son 10 Scholar do do
Samuel do Brother S 45 Carpenter & Joiner do do
It looks as if the family were non-conformist. IGI Family Search shows the baptism of William Henry SHORNEY at Hebron Methodist, Bedminster on 27 September 1880, parents Henry Charles & Sarah Ann SHORNEY.
If you can access Ancestry, maybe through your local Library, you could take a copy of the parish register image and Ancestry also has a couple of images from his UK Railway Employment records which you might find interesting.
