    Post Evans's from Bedminister

    Dear All,

Looking for any information on Thomas Evans Born abt 1804 married to Mary Thorne born abt 1803 in 1828. They had 6 children

    Helena Born 1829
    James Thomas Born 1831
    William Henry Born 1834
    Sarah Anne Born 1837
    Mark born 1844
    Luke Born 1844

Most of the family left Bristol for Australia aboard the Theodore in 1852
Son James and his wife Elizabeth arrived later aboard the Merchantman.

I know what happen to the family after they arrived in Australia, it's just I don't know what happen before they left. It is possible that Mary may have come from Wells and her father may have been called George, I don't know anything about where Thomas came from. So any Information or advise would be great.

    thanks

Looks like the family in 1851 census at Shim Lane, Bedmister

    On the index as EVENS

    Thomas/Head/45/Farm Yard Lab/Collampton, Devon
    Mary/Wife/47/Wells, Somerset
    James/Son/19/Farm Yard Lab/Bedmister, Bristol
    William/Son/17/Farm Yard Lab/Bedmister, Bristol
    Mark/Son/7/Scholar National/Bedmister, Bristol
    Luke/Son/7/Scholar National/Bedmister, Bristol

    Class HO107/Piece 1945/Folio 204/Page 31

Will look at 1841 as well.

    Shereee,

I agree with Pandad that this looks like your family. The address is Shin Lane which I think is now called Sheene Road in Bedminster which in now a suburb of Bristol although in 1851 I would have thought that it was almost a small town/village itself. The occupation is Tan Yard Labourer. There were quite a few tanneries in the area at the time. One was working until quite recently and boy do they stink at times.
In the 1841 census they are living in Bristol in Cart Lane which is still there but looks very different now. This is just off Victoria Street near the City Centre. All the family are there and Thomas is a carpenter.
Should have some more info later.

From a pure and proud Bristolian.

    Dear Mikebroe and Pandad,

Thanks for the information, very helpful, it confirms the Wells connection with Mary and now I have to start looking at Devon for Thomas.

Thanks Mikebroe for the marriage details, we had a feeling it was 1828, but didn't know what the exact date was . Can you advise me of where you got this information? parish records?

These details were obtained from a CD which contains the details from parish records and issued by the Bristol and Avon FHS.
