Can any one me with what CIB could possibly mean (14-19 war)
my uncle's records state when he joined on 19-9-1914 he joined CIB Battalion Kings ????
Later records show on 19-4-18 on promotion he was moved to (Sig Corp) Royal Engineer (33 Div Sig Co)
If any one can help with CIB i would be greatful

I'm pretty sure it is CLB. He would have enlisted into 16th Battalion (Church Lads Brigade) KRRC. It was raised at Denham, Buckinghamshire by Field Marshal Lord Grenfell on 19.9.14
from past and present members of the Church Lads Brigade. In March 1915 it was at Rayleigh, Essex. June 1915 at Clipstone (Nottinghamshire) as part of 100 Brigade, 33rd Division. In August 1915 it was at Perham Down, Hants (a place I know quite well) . 17.11.15 it landed at Le Havre and served in France for the rest of the war.

I'm pretty sure that he was a battalion signaller with 16 KRRC and that later in the war, having gained experience, managed to get transferred to 33 Div Sigs Company RE which was the signal company that supported the division he started off with in the first place.

Terry, your wonderful...I'm ashamed to say that after many years in the WRAC/WRMP...i was finding this search mind blowing...and with minutes few there you are with my answer and more.
Herbert's record shows that he was home base 19-9-14 to 15-11-15 and then BEF 19-9-14 to 15-11-15. He was then home based from 7-2-19 before discharge.

Herbert was BEF from 16-11-15 as I stated but his record shows return date as 6-2-19, except for R+R dates......sorry
Home base...19-9-14 to 15-11-15 and from 7-2-19....I hope that makes more sense
