    Default French Connection.

    Hello

This is to do with my wife's side of the family.

Her father was Anglo/French/Moroccan. His father was French but born in London and married a French lady.

    Names and dates:

Wife's father - Arabi Albert AHMED, born 07 June 1926 at Aulnay-sous-Bois, Seine-et-Oise, (is this in Greater Paris). His father Albert Ahmed, born in Lambeth, London, abt 1879 and his mother's name is LUCIENNE HUTIN.

All this is from a copy of Arabi Albert AHMED's Birth Certificate within the District of the British Consul General in Paris, dated 28 July 1949.

What I am trying to find is any information for LUCIENNE HUTIN (MARRIAGE, BIRTH etc), who could have been born anywhere between 1880/1890 and about 1905. It is possible that she lived in or near to Aulnay-sous-Bois, Seine-et-Oise, Paris.

    Regards

    Richard and Lucienne.

The GRO has a birth registration for Albert Lage AHMED in the June quarter of 1878 in Lambeth District, volume 1d, page 386. This should provide some clues about where they were living at the time and you might be able to find the address on the 1881 census to see if they are still there.

Have you applied to the Town Hall of Aulnay sous Bois (now in the department of Seine Saint Denis - 93) for a copy of Arabi Albert AHMED's birth certificate in French? This might well give more detail about his parents than the copy that you have, unless that is a translation. Is it a complete translation or the registration of your wife's father as a British citizen?

Paris is made up of the city of Paris (department 75), then the Petite Couronne or Inner Ring (departments 92, 93, 94), then the Grande Couronne or Outer Ring (departments 77, 78, 91, 95). This is l'Ile de France or the Greater Paris Area.

I can't find Albert Lage Ahmed on the 1881 Census, but on the 1891 Census there is an Albert L Hodge Ahmad (actually Ahmed on the form but it has been mistranscribed) living at 211 Battersea Park Road, Battersea, given as having been born in Lambeth in about 1879. The rest of the household is:

William Smith Uncles - Head - 70 - Greengrocer Master - Herts, Pelham
    Eliza Uncles - Wife - 46 - Herts, Barnet
    Albert L Hodge Ahmed - Grandson -12 - Scholar - Surrey, Lambeth
Arabi Wen Hodge Ahmed - Grandson - 8 - Scholar - Surrey, Kennington
Ada Mayhew - Servant - 18 - General Domestic Servant - Surrey, Battersea
    Susan Uncles - Daughter, Visitor - 43 - Single - Middlesex, Clare Marks (?)
Azara Lottie Ahmed -Granddaughter - 10 - Scholar - Surrey, Kennington
    Class: RG12; Piece: 423; Folio 63; Page 55

In 1901, Azara is married to Herbert P Cousins and is living in East Ham, Essex:

    Herbert P Cousins - Head - 23 - Walworth, London, England
    Azara C Cousins - Wife - 20 - Kennington, London, England
Azara Cousins - Daughter - 1 - Hackney, London, England
    Ada B Cousins - Daughter - 3 months - Hackney, London, England
    Class: RG13; Piece: 1596; Folio: 68; Page: 11.

There doesn't seem to be any sign of either Albert or his brother; their grandfather William S. Uncle (sic) has retired to Wandsworth with his wife Eliza; a nephew called Harry Child (aged 21, born Longton, Staffordshire) is living with them.
    Class: RG13; Piece: 483; Folio: 190; Page: 22.
