1738 Where Do I go from Here

hi Everyone,

My ancesters came from Cornwall and Devon, I have with the help of my
brother and several other persons got back to the marriage of Henry Cross
and Grace Frost in Lifton (Devon) parish church on the 6th April 1738.
We are trying to find out where Henry or Grace came from?
Obviously getting this far back our only hope is that they came either from
Lifton or somewhere close if we are to find them

When we did the tree back in 2002 we stopped at 1738 however now that
we have more time on our hands we want if possible to get back further.

Question 1 Would Lifton Parish Church actually hold the records for baptisms and marriages on site and if so how does one get a look at them.
My brother actually visited the Church a couple of years ago but found the
curate there very unhelpful.

Has anyone actually seen the records in Lifton Parish Church?

Question 2 To view the records at Exeter Does one actually have to book
up before hand, Does any one know of a service locally to Lifton that
does Genealogical searches.

Question 3 Does Parish Chest do a similar service - Mike Brown who used
to run it did? He is now retired! Has anyone used a similar service?

The Parish Records are held by the Devon Records Office.
