Hi Nicolina,
Do you know if Riley Watling bap 1799 in Worlingworth (son of George & Lydia (Cole)) had a brother W(h)atling W(h)atling, b abt 1793 in Worlingworth. Or, to put it another way, who were W(h)atling's parents? When married to Sarah ( née ?) he went to Stradbroke, where they had several children, including another R(h)iley.Michael

the children of Lydia COLES & George WHATLINg were:

Pells b. abt. 1789 m. 1811 Ann LENNY in Wilby

Lydia b. abt. 1795
Riley b. abt. 1799 m. 1828 Harriet PIPE in Worlingworth

Sarah b. abt. 1822 in Holborn

Emilah? (Emily) b. abt. 1831 Stradbroke unmarried
Charles b. abt. 1833 Stradbroke m. Selina Marcilla

That'd be the one - I got sidetracked by the 1851 census where the one who must be William is enumerated and indexed as Whatling Whatling, Thatcher, in Stradbroke.
Thanks for the help.Michael

that has happened a few times. Trying to unravel the W(H)ATLING saga is like trying to un-knot a ball of string. Every day we are adding or changing things. Then there are the obvious mis-spellings. Try searching for WATLING and see how many hits you get for Watling Street.

Michael, I need to check but I seem to recollect that, recently, an article about a Whatling thatcher turned up.

There are several Watling thatchers in this line, so I noticed when going through the censuses. Riley (who married Martha Bloomfield) was also a thatcher. And three generations of Riley's from Riley b 1799 were thatchers.
