    Thanks Sue. I didn't know about this Martha Jane so that was useful! With a surname derived from French such as Pettett, it's not surprising that there is a French connection. One day I hope to go to Sussex and check the church registers there; maybe I'll get a bit closer to the Louis XIV's Revocation of the Edict of Nantes there, which is when I guess they all came over. My son had a DNA check done and we have a very strong connection with France!

    Hi Wayne,
    After speaking with my connection in Kentucky, USA i have found that the Pettetts were indeed Huguenot refugees from northern France and went to England settling in Kent and Sussex. This information was handed down through a number of generations in his line and was often spoken about.
