I know that his wife, that's what she's down as on the census from 1881 as that she is called elizabeth but elizabeth what. She too was born 1855 macclesfield edwin's ocupation skip maker. in 1901 they lived failsworth manchester lancashire. I've got births deaths but no marriage. names of children
George, Ann, Ellen ,Mary ann Nancy and mabel.
One of edwin's children was married to my great grandmothers brother
making them my great great aunt .
It's frustrating when you can't find something eh?

Joanne,
There is the following you should consider
Marriages June 1886: Edwin Podmore: Chorlton: Volume 8c Page 1067
Chorlton included parts of Manchester. Perhaps Edwin was a bit slow off the mark? Unfortunately, the record on FreeBMD is not yet complete (there are not the same numbers of men and women for that page in the register), but at present there is no Elizabeth listed on the same page.

Sometimes I've found that the name Edward has been used instead of Edwin. There is a Edward Podmore year 1875 Mar 1/4 district Maclesfield vol 8a, page 221. The brides who are listed are:-
Elizabeth Fold and a Martha Hudson.
Would suggest that you get one of their childrens birth certificates which will have the mothers maiden name entered.Julie

Joanne,
I would think this is the birth of their son, George
Births Jun 1878
Surname Podmore
First name(s) George
District Macclesfield
Vol 8a
Page 139
You should be able to find Elizabeth's maiden name from the certificate.

Joanne,
I think Margarita is absolutely right. But that presents another problem - look for the birth of Elizabeth FOLD and you get nowhere. Even a phonetic search produces some unlikely candidates. The GRO index for the marriage is typed, so there will have been an opportunity for misreading/mistranscription of the name(s) from handwritten lists. Margarita's suggestion of getting at least one birth certificate must be the best way forward.
