I am looking for a marraige record for my lost grandad, I do not know his name but I do know my grandmothers name, her name was Ellen Hope Wild, she married a Mitchell but thats all I know, it would of been in Shoreditch around 1928-1929 as my father was born in 1929 in shoreditch.
My father is nearly 80 and would like to know finally his fathers name, he was never told. There is a divorce record I found on the UK archive site for a Reginald James Mitchell and Ellen Mitchell in 1937, not sure if this is them but it is all I know. It seems to fit but I would love to know for sure!
I live in Australia so I can't visit any parishes personally.
Can anyone help?
kind regards
sue

Hi Sue,
I have found the marriage record, so all you need is this information to order a proper marriage certificate.
1st Quarter of 1928, Ellen H. Wild married .......Mitchell in Shoreditch Vol. 1c, page 66.

Hi Sue,
Welcome to the forum.
No good telling you to 'have a wrootle round' and then post your queries because you've already done that.
Not sure how much you know about our BMD certificates so I'll give a very brief overview.
What you will find on the certificates
https://www.dixons.clara.co.uk/Certificates/indexbd.htm
Where and how to order them
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/or...ates/index.asp
FreeBMD
https://freebmd.rootsweb.com/
is an ongoing project to transcribe the GRO Index.
The full Index (to 2005) is available online through several (pay) companies but can also be accessed in Australia for the cost of travelling to one of the places listed
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/re....asp#australia
Anything you don't understand, just yell.
The document your father actually wants is his birth certificate. Probably not yet on FreeBMD - more 1920s stuff added every month but extremely large gaps at the moment - so you will need to refer to the full GRO Index.
