I have been viewing a census for 1881 and under the occupation heading it has Gardener (N D) could anyone please tell me what ND stands for.. I am a necomer to genealogy thank you.. Kath

Non Domestic.
I.E. He was employed either as a market gardener or in public parks etc.

Be aware that you can find various notes associated with occupations written in a different hand which were added "back in the office" as part of the process of assigning the appropriate statistical category.
These notes would not be part of the job title supplied by the householder.
