    Default James Willacy GGrandfather

Hi my name is Toni Ferris and I am trying to trace my great grandfather James Willacy.

The only information I have on him is that he was born in either Poulson-le-Flyde, or Poulson-le-Sands.

He married Mary Murray 9 Ferbruary 1885. Mary was from Scotland.

They immigrated to New Zealand, but I am unsure if this was before their first son James Willacy was born in 1885, or after. I definitely know their second son Charles was born in Greytown New Zealand on 19 April 1887.

Any help would be much appreciated by both myself and my Mother, whom James Willacy was her Grandfather.

    Default James WILLACY

    Hello Toni,

Do you have the marriage certificate of James & Mary?? If not, this should really be the first thing you obtain as it will give you the name and profession of his father which should enable you to definitely trace James in earlier census records.

In the meantime, this could perhaps be your James in the 1861 census of Poulton:

    RG9/3155, folio 8, page 9
    Lancaster Road

John WILLECY Head Mar 43 Fisherman Lancashire Heysham
Margaret do Wife Mar 39 do Caton

James do Son 4 do do
Ruth do Daur 8 mo do do
Albert do Gr Son 3 do do
William WOODHOUSE Father in law Widr 73 Retired Publican Lancashire Torrisholme

I can't find James in the 1881 census at all.

and in the 1871 census of Heysham, Lancs:

Hi and thanks for the information. The top family you put up could be the one I am looking for as it seems the James, William, John, Charles, Thomas and Ruth are all names that seem to pop up in my family as names of my Aunt and Uncles.

This seems to be the same as the one that I found while searching. I found James Willacy baptised 31 May 1857 Holy Trinity, Poulson-le-Sands Lancashire England, son of John and Margaret.

My mother also feels that this would be around the right age.

    Toni
