Default William Stewart Orr & Annie Craig - Kilbirnie, Ayrshire

William Stewart Orr and Annie Craig from Kilbirnie families and settled in Mt Sterling, North Carolina.

Williams dob is given as 1857 dod as 1889. (He died young - 32 - through a logging accident.)
Conflicting information I've received gives his mother's name as Janet Orr, another Mary Orr.

I'm struggling to get both father and mother for William.

    Is there anyone 'doing' Orrs?

    Thanks for any assistance.

    James.

    Hello James,
Please forgive me being a little slow, I think you are saying that William and Annie married and went to Carolina.
    William was born in 1857.
Do you know when and where they married and when they emigrated?

There is a William Orr in the 1861 Scotland Census.

Mutley, thanks for all your work. It is my understanding that William and Annie were indeed married but I only assume in Ayrshire. They arrived in N Carolina in the 1880's - can't at this stage narrow it down any closer. This is from a posting on Rootsweb's McEwing Message Board - the particular poster appears to be un-contactable as her email address is nbg. I've been trying to follow up with the more recent poster as well.

I'll get a better look at your other messages now.

    Thanks.

    Hello,
There are 3 William Orr's, the one born abt 1854 to John and Jessie is not yours. I have followed him through to 1901.

I am still working on Janet's son and Elizabeth's son. I have them both in 1861 and 1871. It is the next one that will be interesting!
    If I find it.....

As an 'extra' to this, I had hoped that just maybe this Orr bunch were connected to my own.

My Elizabeth Orr b 5th May, Chr 13th May 1813 Stoneyholm Farm, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland

Parents: George Orr (b about 1783) and Elizabeth McEwing (b about 1787). They were married 8th March 1808 Kilbirnie, Ayr, Scotland.

I can see now they are not.
I've actually just set up a forum for Orrs today - its very much incomplete as yet - had hoped it might have become a 'family affair' lol.

    Hello James,
I think I have gone about as far as I can, unfortunately I do not have full access to Scottish Records. I think the marriage of William and Annie is important to give the father's names.

I would hazard a guess that your William is the son of Elizabeth born abt 1840, grandson of James and Margaret. He lives with mum and Uncle Robert in 1871 and then seems to disappear.

I think that William, son of Janet is the one who goes on to marry Esther and is a plumber. William, son of John and Jessie goes on to be a medical practitioner and marries Katherine.

Have not got back to an Elizabeth born 1813.

    Good Luck with your forum.

William Stewart Orr was my Great Grandfather on my mother’s side. William and Annie came to N.C. in 1885 as shown in the census of 1900. (I have a family picture taken in Beith around 1885.) My Grandfather, Barclay L Orr, was born near Asheville in 1886 and was killed in an accident in Asheville around 1914.
After William Stewart died in a logging accident, Annie married Michael Benson.
