I have hit the proverbial brick wall with my great-grandfather Patrick DUFF. I guess he was born c1815-20 somewhere in Ireland. He married around 1849, wife unknown, and had a daughter Kathleen (Kate) born 1850. Did wife die in childbirth? He married again around 1862, to Maria Kelly (1838-1874), when he was a sergeant in the Pensions Office at Castle Barracks, King John's Castle, Limerick City. They had three children, all born at Castle Barracks, it is believed. Their names were James Charles, born 1863; Agnes Mary, born 1866; and Amy, born 1870.

Patrick DUFF retired around 1875-80 as Barracks Master at Castle Barracks and went to live with his family in Garryowen, just down the road from the barracks.

Who was Patrick? Who were his parents? From whence did they come? Did he have siblings? Who was his first wife? This is my brick wall! Can anyone help?
