Can anyone help. My grandfather is described on my father's birth certifcate as a Railwayman (ex Army). My grandfather was born in 1898 and died in 1924 - in Grimsby Lincolnshire. How can I find out details of my grandfather's army career? Could he have been enlisted in the army as a consequence of his "reserved" occupation? I have found him on the absent voter list from Grimsby 1919. Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks for this - my grandfather was George Henry Sutcliffe. His wife was Florence Dorothy Page. Is that enough for now?

melsibob, I had thought, given the young age that your grandfather died, it may have been caused by WW1 and I could have found something in 1914-1920 Pensions Records, but haven't come up with anything so far. Sorry.
