My uncle is also doing family history research, he thinks some of our ancestors (1880's) may have been gypsies? would they have appeared on census reports? What jobs would they have done? How would i find out if they were? Did they register Births, Deaths, Marriages? These are just a few questions i have. Can anyone help me answer them???

Many gypsies and travellers worked in the fairgrounds. I don't think I can post the links here but if you google for "fairground ancestors" a lot of very useful sites appear.

Also check out Romanies in the 'Topics' section of the forum.
Not many threads to read through at the moment , but quite a few links given in the various replies.

You may find it useful to read "My ancestors were Gypsies" by Sharon Sillers Floate.
