    Default william quail

I have been researching the Quail family from Loughboro.
I eventually found William on the 1881 census in the Leicester & Rutland Asylum. He was married ( i have the censuses for his wife and family), a foundry man, aged 37. In 1891 I found William in the Asylum still, 47, M, born in Loughboro though occupation given as machine fitter. I have been unable to find him in 1901, or a death either. I believe his wife, Mary Ann , is recorded as married on 1901 census in Loughboro.
Does someone have a census of the asylum? If so, would it be possible to check this out for me.

    Thanks

    Hi

Thanks a lot...this is my William.
I didn't think of putting in initials. I have a lot to learn.
I guess by the 1901 census people's privacy became a bit more important.
Is there any way to find out if and when he died in the asylum.
    What awful terms were used.

    Thanks again.

If available, you may want to take a look at the Creed Registers. Beside the obvious they may also tell you his home parish, date of enrty into the insitution and the date of discharge (or death if applicable).

Just noticed the last 2 replies. Thanks for that.
Would the Creed reisters be held in the local Records Office?
I will trawl through bmd to see if I can find a death for william...he doesn't appear on freebmd so must be after 1915.

As he isn't a close relative i hesitate to send for a certificate ..it gets so expensive!!!

    thanks again.

I'm only familiar with creed registers in relation to workhouses and to be frank I didn't even know hospitals had creed registers.

You can check out the CRO's holdings for yourself at https://www.a2a.org.uk/ under Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland Record Office and catalogue reference DE 3533 (use extended search).

    Hi Peter
tried the address you gave me...and it helps somewhat. A visit to the Records office in Wigston is called for!
