My cousin has a box which her mother purchased many years ago and it has a slip of yellow paper in the lid saying that it was given to Lucy Byng Phillips in 1847, Thurnby. She is very interested in finding out where the family lived, and has asked me to try and get some information. She doesn't have a computer unfortunately.
I have looked at the 1851 on Ancestry and found a Lucy B. Phillips, born abt. 1844, location Thurnby, Leic. Unfortunately, I don't have a subscription, so am unable to look at the details. Could some kind person have a look for me please?
Thank you
Glenys

Hi Mutley,
That is brilliant!!! Thank you so much, my cousin will be delighted, as am I.
It is so interesting (as you say) to be looking for someone not remotely connected to my family.
I think my cousin was sad that the lovely box found it's way into a shop or whatever, where my Aunt bought it many years ago. She was born early 1900s!! It's a pity that a family member couldn't have had it.
Brilliant anyway....thank you.

Ah....they are now in London! That's how my aunt came to get it then!
Thanks for this.

Then it becomes more difficult, the B is disappears from her name and there is more than one of them born Leicester about the same time.
There are also possible marriages and deaths.
Let me know if you want me to keep looking.
Regards Mutley
P.S. Was so busy looking I did not realise you had come on line and answered until I posted again.
Yes it does make a change from our brick walls....Last edited by Mutley; 05-02-2007 at 7:04 PM. Reason: added a bit

Mutley....thank you for your time, it's been much appreciated.
I can check the 1881 etc. and BDM's but I will pass this information on to my cousin in the meantime, and see what she wants to do. She will be over the moon to get some sort of information regarding the little girl who was given this lovely box. Unfortunately if she didn't get married, there's not much hope of tracing direct descendants, but I will see whether my cousin wants to take this any further. If so, I may be back for more help when I get stuck!!
