    Question Gotobed Ely early 1800's

All, I am new to this forun thing so be kind.

I have been tracing back on a family line that is from Ely in Cambridgshire and I have got back to a William Gotobed b.1811 in Holy trinity Ely, and his wife Elizabeth Layton b.1811 in Ely. (combination of Cencus(1841) and birth cert for Rebecca Gotobed b 1847) Rebecca was my G Grandmother.

They lived in Back hill Ely in 1841, and by 1851 they had moved to Bernard street. If anyone has any info on what these places were like back in the 1840's/ 50's I would be really interested.

does anyone know of any online parish records that may help me get back further, or is now the time for me to get away from the computer and start to visit Cambridgshire to dig up more on these ancestors of mine.

Have you considered joining Cambridgeshire Family History Society?

Look at their bookstall as they are have done a lot of transcriptions.

I have managed to track a lot of my Cambridgeshire ancestors down using transcriptions and then paying for copies from the record office. I do intend to visit the area in the next year or so. Cambridgeshire is a long drive away for me.
