    Question Carter Family search

I am currently researching the Carter family and in paticular descendants of Cooley Carter born in 1798. I believe his father was Thomas Carter. My great grandfather was Frederick George Carter (son of Cooley) born in 1845 in Bury.

Which 'Bury' do you want? Multimap are giving four in four counties.

    Lynne,

    The 1841 census lists Coley [?] Carter, 42, wheelwright, with Elizabeth, 39, John, 15, Anthony, 12, Mary, 10, Elizabeth, 8, Hannah, 6, Benjamin, 5 and Sarah, 1. [Reference: HO107/448 Folio 7 Page 10]

The 1851 census shows Cooley, 51, a wheelwright and, by this time, a widower, living with 5 sons and daughters in Bury, Huntingdonshire -- Elizabeth, 18, Hannah, 17, Benjamin, 14, Alfred, 9 and Frederic, 7. [Reference: HO107/1749 Folio 43 Page 6]

The 1861 census has Cooley, 61, with wife Mary, 72, daughter [or perhaps step-daughter?], Lucy Scott, 23, and sons Alfred, 19, and Frederick, 17. All the men are carpenters and Lucy is a dressmaker. [Reference: RG9/976 Folio 30 Page 15]

It looks like Cooley Carter married Mary Scot in 1853 in St. Ives. [Refrerence: volume 3b page 482]

The 1871 census has wheelwright Cooley, 71, and wife Mary, 72, living with Lucy and granddaughter Annie Scott, 8. [Reference: RG10/1528 Folio 31 Page 15]

Do you already have all this?

    Trish
