    Thumbs up WADE Total Newbie

Hi, as you can guess from the title, I'm totally new to this and have no idea (as yet) what to do and how to do it.
I've just joined genes reunited and in the last 3 weeks, phoned up friends and relatives and have amassed 144 relations, but apart from that, HELP!
I live on the Isle of Man and researching the family name WADE, with my eldest relatives being William Joseph Wade DOB 20/09/1877 who I believed married Sarah (WADE?) who was born on 13/03/1875 , both Isle of Man.
I would appreciate some guidance as to what to do next. Thanks

    Read this:

    https://www.genuki.org.uk/gs/

Follow the links, note the reading list, order some books eg Ancestral Trails from your local library, follow the advice and come back to us if there's anything you don't understand.

For specific IoM info, see https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/iom/ Note the reference to another book you could try to get hold of.

Above all remember that all you have so far is family recollections. This is hearsay - very valuable but everything needs to be confirmed by you from original sources before you can say you know anything about the family.

Welcome to resarching your family history which is enjoyable, confusing, puzzling and frustrating in about equal measures.

In addition to Peter's advice, do you have any birth, marriage or death certificates to confirm the details that you have? Have you tried to locate the family in any census returns? The 1901 census is online at:
    https://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
(free seach of index, you pay to view the original entry)

The index shows two William WADEs aged 24 in IoM, one born and living in German, t'other born Laxey and living in Lonan. The index also shows a 26yr old Sarah Wade (born Patrick) living in German, but no corresponding Sarah living in Lonan.

So, assuming that the chap born in German is yours, the 1881 census transcript records:

    RG11/5596 f104 p10
    Ramsey Rd, German, IoM
Maggie WADE, hd, mar, 34, dressmaker, husband at sea, bn Patrick, IoM
Eva WADE, dau, 9, scholar, bn German, IoM
Harry WADE, son, 6, bn German, IoM
William WADE,s on, 4, bn German, IoM
Evan WADE, son, 1, bn German, IoM
Annie KEWLEY, sister-in-law, unm, 36, dressmaker, bn German, IoM

But do get certificates to confirm detail before assuming that the above is definitely your chap.
