British Genealogy is dedicated to assisting people with their British family history research.

Everything here is FREE!

If you are truly a family history researcher, it is not enough just to collect names to build a family tree. It is important to find out everything possible about your ancestors and put meat on the bones with information about where they lived, how they lived their lives, information about their occupations and what influenced their thinking and decision making.

Real family history research - not just collecting names and dates.

Always remember, it is not the number of branches on your family tree that matters, or even how far it goes back in time. The important part is how many leaves... and the situation of the tree in relation to its landscape.

The aim of this site is to give you guidance - pointers towards carrying out good quality, sound research and help on how to find the relevant sources of information that will help you in your quest. If you are a complete newcomer to family history research, we even have a page giving you a few tips on how to get started.

This site has two main areas of interest:

The Resources Pages (temporarily unavailable)
Lots of information on the various sources available to help you with your research

The Forum
Lots of separate help and discussion forums on all sorts of family history topics, and of course, forums for all British counties.

Both are totally FREE for you to use.
