Mailing lists specifically for producers of commercial products and servicesThe whole object of the exercise here, is not for British-Genealogy.com to make huge sums by selling advertising, but to help cover the immense costs of the mailing list servers, etc. For the end user, everything is totally free. But the money has to come from somewhere! There are two types of available mailing lists:

Announcement Mailing ListsThis type of mailing list is intended for the use of companies that sell products and services. This is a mailing list where only you and your staff can post messages, but where anyone can be a subscriber and receive mail. You have complete control of your mailing list. You may add your own subscriber list, and add subscribers whevever you wish. In addition, if you wish, the mailing list can be configured to allow anyone to subscribe themselves, or it can be a closed list where subscriptions are added by yourself only. Any subscriber will be able to remove themself from the list, or suspend receiving list mail. Announcement mailing lists are really a sort of "newsletter" where you can post information about your products and services, updates, etc. There is no limit to the number of newsletter or announcement posts that you can make. Postings may be made in plain text format only (not html, as that is a general rule with the British-Genealogy mailing lists to prevent file attachments, viruses, etc.). There is no limit to the size of each posting, although it is recommended under normal circumstances that it is no more than 30k. The attachment of files is not permitted. You may only advertise the products or services that you sell as a part of your normal business. You may provide links within the advertisements/announcements to your web pages and email addresses.
You may chose your own list name, which will be in the format: The cost of hosting an announcement list on our servers is £40 per month, plus VAT at 17.5%.

Discussion Mailing ListsThis type of mailing list is intended for the use of companies that sell products and services. This is a mailing list where you and your staff can post messages, but where anyone can be a subscriber and also post and receive mail. You have complete control of your mailing list. This type of list is intended for users of your products and services. If you make it an "open" mailing list anyone can be a subscriber and post messages. This type of mailing list is particularly useful where purchasers of your products help each other with hints and tips, etc., or ask questions and seek answers. In doing so, it takes a lot of load off your own customer support staff. You may add your own subscriber list, and add subscribers whevever you wish. In addition, if you wish, the mailing list can be configured to allow anyone to subscribe themselves, or it can be a closed list where subscriptions are added by yourself only. You may monitor messages before they are posted to the mailing list, or you can allow people to just post as they wish. You have complete control, and you are responsible for the administration of your own mailing list. You will be able to remove troublesome subscribers should you wish, or monitor their messages. Any subscriber will be able to remove themself from the list, or suspend receiving list mail. There is no limit to the number of newsletter or announcement posts that you can make to a discussion mailing list yourself in addition to the normal discussion mail.
