    Hello there

I have looked through all I have on Lampr(e)ys in Braunton, but can find no mention of a Lamprey being transported (not that that means one wasn't ).

Can you give me any idea of where you found a reference to this? I see on the Australian thread you say the chap's name was Philip Lamprey. There were certainly Philip Lampreys in Braunton, but without any more details, I can't say whether it is likely to be any of the ones I know about.

At a quick look I have found the marriages for two Philips in Braunton
    Phylip Lamprey = Mary Hooper - 9th September 1746
Philip Lamprey (carpenter) = Mary Gibbs (widow) - 2nd July 1760
and the baptisms of four children to a Philip and Mary between 1747 and 1758, including a Philip born in 1747.
There are three Philips recorded in the burials, one in 1749, one in 1773 and one in 1830.

If you think I might be able to help you with anything about the Lampreys in Braunton, please let me know.

    Best wishes
    Ann

    Default Philip Lamprey - convict

Philip Lamprey age 24 years [born c1790], tried at Devon 1813, sentenced to 14 years. Transported to NSW 1814 per "General Hewitt".
Details of trial should be available at National Archives Kew.

    Regards,
    Barrie.

Thank you that confirms my guess, after 14 years he must have had some parole, I do not know, he was not alive for long after his sentence.. Can I find out why he got 14yrs? Thanks again
