My g grandfather, JOHN PAGE WARD b. 13 Oct 1828 Suffolk d. 14 Apr 1884 Montreal ,Quebec, Canada. Married ELEANOR DOGGETT, 26 Dec 1863, St Georges Church, London. Both were residing in London at the time.

Doesn't answer your question but John Page Ward of 109 City Road. commercial clerk, appears to have gone bankrupt in 1869 (Source The Times, Wed Sep 8 1869, page 4)

Is it possible for just anyone to access The Times archives?

"Is it possible for just anyone to access The Times archives?"
The Times Digital Archive is widely available through libraries. Also, it's even more widely available on microfilm - the library may also have a separate CD based index.
There wasn't a full report of the bankruptcy - only a notice of the hearing - not really worth looking up.

"So it appears that my g grandmother was the second wife of John Page"
Surely his (second) marriage certificate showed him as a widower?
