Wolverley, Shropshire
Hello Cher
Wolverley, like many place names, is found in more than one county.
There is a Wolverley in Shropshire - it is about 3 miles north west of Wem and there is a Hall there. It was originally in Wem parish but later became part of Newtown parish.

Hi Mike i am sure according to the census,s that you are talking about the right Wolverley, i wondered if the hall was where the farmers lived or if a seperate family lived there. My direct acestor is supposed to have been born at Wolverley Hall but i am trying to find his birth details to order his cert, i will know to look now at Wem or Newtown.
thanks

Wolverley Hall, Shropshire
Hello Cher
Looking at the 1851 and 1861 census your Joseph COOKE gives his place of birth as Ellesmere so I think you should be looking there for his baptism.
At Shropshire Archives there is an Index of Wills proved at Shrewsbury between 1858 and 1940 which was computerised by Shropshire FHS a few years ago. You will be pleased to know that your Joseph made a Will in 1871 and it was proved (Probate Granted) in 1875. You can buy a copy of the Will from the Court Service see http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm at a cost of five pounds or you can view the registered copy at Shropshire Archives free of charge if you go there. In either case you need to quote his name and the year of Probate, 1875. In addition, at Shrewsbury the page number is 333.
