    Question James MacGowan

I am assisting my wifes cousin, in trying to put some flesh to the bones of James MacGowan. He was the father of William MacGowan (died 1871, New Pitsligo) and also John Pike MacGowan (born 1807, Perth, Scotland). He was married to Isabella nee Laurie, and although dead at the time of William's death is described as a Chelsea Pensioner.
I have tried PROCAT at the National Archives, but no success.
Does anyone on this forum recognise the name or have any suggestiona as to where from here.
    Many Thanks in Advance

    Hi

The only one of them that I can find is John Pike McGowan b. 22 July 1807, c. 5 Aug 1807 Perth, Scotland. Father James, Mother Isabella on Family Search Bathch no C119476.

do you have Williams death Cert, what age is he on it or any other details to help.

I have found a William MacGowan b abt 1807 Scotland married to a Mary b abt 1818 Oxfordshire with children Margaret b abt 1847 Oxfordshire and William Joseph b abt 1853 Middlesex on the 1861 Census of Chelsey, Royal Hospitol, Ham, his occupation is a Messenger.

If these are you people then there is a marriage at Oxford for a William MacGowan Sept qtr, Vol no 16, page no 99, on the same page is a Mary Grant.

    Sandy
