    Default A challenge in deciphering!

looking at the family at the bottom...children of Abraham....can anyone identify the surname?

I'm sure it will jump out at me as soon as I post this (it usually does!)

ps I can't seem to get it to zoom in photobucket.

    a zoomed in section

I'm thinking GUNNER now! Maybe GUNNERS as it looks like an s at the end.

Insanity is hereditary - you get it from your kids

I see the first letter as an S - the scribe brings the tail up behind as they did with the Susannas in the entries above.

The end looks the same as the ends of the months in the lines following, that is, er with an added s.

    Thus, SUMMERS ??

I tend to agree with dale away.....Summers. The 'S' is much the same as used in entries prior to the baptisms of Abraham's children ie Samuel, Sarah, Susanna.

Thank you all. I think Summers is most likely, although I thought the middle looked like 2 "n"s rather than 2 "m"s , but the ending is definately "ers" and looking at the S in "Sarah" the first letter does look like "S" now

I think the name has been written Sumers, though we would write it "Summers" now days.
