Fred Diver joined the Royal Navy in 1926 & left in 1948 why can't I find any record.
I would like to know what ships he served on & any medals

Welcome to British-Genealogy.
You can't find any record because most service records post-1921 are still held by the MoD. However, prior to 1976 RN sailors were given their records on discharge so the records still held by the MoD are limited, though they would seem to cover at least some of the information you want. Scroll down to 'Royal Navy' section in this tutorial.

You may be able to find a mention in ADM 171 on Ancestry ("UK, Naval Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1972").
