Records show that George Braid received a 'mention in despatches', unfortunately the records for the citation have been destroyed. We have his 3 medals, 14-15 Star, British War medal and the Victory medal but no oakleaf. Apparently these were only awarded later in 1920(?) and Grandad (or others) may not have been aware he was eligible. Grandad served with the Gordon Highlanders Western Front and then Italy 15-18.
Question now is, is it possible to get hold of an oakleaf 'sew on' to complete his collection.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi
You can buy replica MID oakleaves on ebay, or try any medal shops.
For his MID have you searched the London Gazette for it?
It wont give any details, but at the start of it, it will mention who wrote it and what for.
Then you can find a war dairy for that time and see what they were doing.

Hi
Does the LG say which battalion of the Gordons he was in?
War diaries online at National Archives - https://discovery.nationalarchives.go...=33&image1.y=5
Note not all battalions are online yet, but you need to know which one to buy the right dairy.
