Default Soldiers who died in the great war

    Hi
I am looking for help on the abbreviations used in this book.
We have entry for Frederick Feston which has the inial "e" then Clapham.
He served and died with the Queens Royal West Surrey 2nd Btn.
We have assumed over a number of years that the e referred to enlisted but would like to be sure.

ANC has the entry transcribed as place of birth Clapham which wasn't true.

    Cheers. Ed

There's no "e" in either of the transcriptions currently on my screen. We must be looking at different things.

Indeed !! I have a photocopy of the actual book page. So the "e" has been missed out in ANC transcription or wherever they got it from. Hence the misunderstanding of the "Clapham". He was actually born and lived in Bermondsey, so I have assumed that he enlisted as a conscript given the dates at the RWS South London recruiting office.

    Thanks for all the responses.

    Cheers Ed
