Default Mercantile Marine Medal - tracing receipient

    Hi, help needed please......

A recent check of my Grandfather's (GF) BEF (Irish Guards) WW1 ribbons (Pip, Wilfred & Squeak) which are held by a distant relative and have always been held in a loose and non-made up state, it was noted that on the separate ribbons bar that there was a ribbon for the Mercantile Marine Medal (MMM)? However there is no actual MMM in amongst these items (however this does not mean that it did not exist at one time or another & could now be lost?). For you information, there is no known document records or remaining family recollection that my GF ever served in the Merchant Navy/Marine either during WW1 or any other time. This is a mystery to me as to why this MMM ribbon is amongst this collection. Therefore how can I successfully check to see if my GF was ever awarded the MMM....many thanks in anticipation.
