I have received information on my grandfather's war record. As far as I can see, he joined the Pioneers in 1942 from Southern Ireland and somehow ended up in 2 SAS Brigade. There is a lot I can't decipher and would love to find out what he actually did during the war. I never met the man and he is an enigma to me.

Thanks very much for that. I've worked out a few of the abbreviations already, but there are still more. From his decorations, etc., I think he may have seen some action in North Africa in 1942/43, in Italy in 1943. He was on Airborne pay for a time and was the Allied Forces for the Liberation of Norway. I'm just going through them at the moment and will send on any abbreviations I can't figure out. Thanks again.

Sorry Michael. His name was John Nicholson. Enlisted November 1942. Demobbed October 1947. Reenlisted 1949 and was sent out to Malaya. RAOC I think. 221 vehicle bn. Left 1953.
