I am trying to find out some information about my husbands Grand father who was in the Royal Artillery in WW2. He survived the war but was badly injured in March 1945. I believe that he was the only survivor of his gun crew when it exploded. I am trying to find when and where he was injured. His name was Richard Gerald Murphy , Royal Artillery 93 L.A.A Regt Army number 1725894 He joined up in Carlisle 14/11/1940 and was discharged due to injuries 5/11/1945
Thanks

I am likewise seeking advice on finding more information regarding my grandfather's service. Te information I have is: J.W. Olney, WO.II,

I have obtained a photograph of the headstone of his grave. I am seeking his service history, campaign medals, ribbons etc. I live in Tennessee and plan on visiting his grave and my grandmother's outside of Reading this summer. Can you all give me any direction? Very much appreciated!

Hi
As above, you have to apply for his service record.
As for medals, you can write to - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/medals-c...nd-eligibility
That is the list of medals and at the bottom is contact details, just ask them that you want to know what he was entitled to.
Ancestry has this-
Name:
John Olney
Given Initials:
J W

Warrant Officer Class II
Death Date:
25 Jan 1940
Number:
1046222
Birth Place:
Reading
Residence:
Reading
Regiment at Enlistment:

Looks like he also served in WW1 , medal index card-

Welcome to the British-Genealogy forums.
This sticky explains and gives links to download the forms to apply for WW11 service records. You will not find them online.
You will need his death certificate and 30 pounds.
On FreeBMD this appears to be his death registration
John W Olney
March 1/4 1940 registration district Colchester vol 41 page 2150
You order certificates from the GRO here
Because you know your grandfather's regiment you can search for war diaries at The National Archives site. They don't mention names of the lower ranked soldiers, unless in extraordinary circumstances but will tell you where and what the regiment was up to at specific times.
There is a rather long wait for the records to be delivered so it will pay to do it sooner rather than later

Dear Robert,
Thank you so much for your help! I have found and printed one medal card but the abbreviations are foreign to me. I shall attempt the search as you suggested, however, I do not have the death certificate from 1939. Can you give me any direction in that regard AND where might I go to recreate the medals and ribbons to which he was entitled?
Thanks so much again,
Amanda

I don't think you need to send the death certificate if he died in service.

Peter is correct. This from the GOV.UK site Here
"Subject to the payment of an administration fee and provision of a death certificate (except where death was in service), certain information can be provided from the records of service of service personnel on request under the publication scheme."
